A hundred years ago Mark Twain said, “We picked up one excellent word – a word worth traveling to New Orleans to get… It is the thirteenth roll in a baker’s dozen. It is something thrown in gratis for good measure.” It’s the reason that the gumbo at one restaurant is better than that at another. You can’t determine why from the recipe.
I appreciate the few examples of Lagniappe level of service. In recognition a Route 2 donation is made to to a charity of the providers choice.
Somewhere between child and adult, most men learn how to shine shoes. Everyone man or woman who has served in the military learns to do so. It is just sloppy to wear shoes that don’t look sharp. Dad taught me how. The army re-enforced dad’s teaching so I absolutely know how to polish my shoes. I don’t like to.
Nordstrom downtown Seattle is the place to shop for business and dress clothes. When I go I wear a better pair of shoes and bring a large bag with all my shoes. While I don’t like polishing my shoes what I really do like is a good chat with Brent the second-generation operator of the best shoe shine business I’ve experienced. Whether sports, life, or philosophy it is always an enjoyable and inspiring chat.
Forty-six years ago Brent’s dad Morgan approached Bruce Nordstrom and promised to run the classiest shoeshine shop in town. I’ve been a customer for over twenty-five years. The legacy continues with youngest son Brent and his wife Sunny. I remember always having a nice chat with Morgan during the process and Brent continues to carry on that tradition of friendly professionalism, a better than barbershop dialogue, and a shine than exceeds my capability even with both dad and Drill Sargent Myrick training.
Stop in. You will enjoy a nice discussion and leave with shoes that look better than new.
In recognition and appreciation of the something extra provided by Brent and team, a Route 2 Lagniappe contribution will be made to:
