Pet’s Choice acquired 50+ veterinary hospitals in 4 distant states (WA, AZ, TX and OK) in a very quick 2-year period. We asked you to lead us through the process of unifying the direction, activities and values between hospitals and executive leadership. Through your leadership we defined our vision, mission and values and key strategic initiatives. Most importantly we learned to trust and enjoy working with each other, utilizing the strengths of a team and realizing some of those elusive synergies that are always forecasted but seldom seen in consolidations. I particularly recall the uniqueness and fun of our initial 3 day off-site that laid the foundation for our future. As a young company we determined that there were multiple significant projects that had to be completed in a short period of time. These projects included a multiple site operating software conversion, the building of critical new facilities in multiple states and the acquisition of a key hospital in a new territory. Our ability to attract new capital, recruit professionals and service clients required exceptional follow through on all initiatives. We engaged you again to help us plan the projects and allocate resources using visual tools. You personally acted as a coach and mentor to members of the executive management team. I have found the Route 2 approach to be a fresh “out of the box” way of guiding our thinking about who we are and want to be. That being said, the client needs to be ready to look at a non-traditional approach. One key reason for my use of Route 2 was to break away from the “silo” of health care experts as consultants. I am concerned about the inbreeding of ideas. Health care experience and knowledge are important but we do need to look outside ourselves and our industry as we look forward.

After building Veterinary Specialty Center, a 24-hour emergency animal hospital staffed with advanced degreed and credentialed veterinary specialists, we called upon your leadership and the Route 2 team once again. The hospital immediately opened as one of the busiest veterinary centers in the region. The high demand for services on a staff that was entirely new and medical leadership that had never been in a leadership position before created immediate issues between staff, doctors, and most significantly clients. Client satisfaction was relatively low, employee morale was dismal and job turnover high. Your work on building the team, improving processes, and creating an environment of excellence made an immediate impact. Once again with your leadership and the Route 2 visual tools the team began to set goals, make decisions and realize success. The hospital survived the early missteps and with your help became one our flagship hospitals.
