Some people do stupid, dishonest, immoral or illegal things. Most don’t.
Yet the bad behavior of the few too often results in the majority being treated like idiots or criminals. One in eleven shoppers shoplift yet every shopper’s shopping experience is negatively impacted.
Some very small number of teachers have used social media in abusive relationships with students. School boards try to protect school districts and students via prohibitions, rules and regulations that interfere with the powerful and positive ways social media tools can be used in education.
Employee handbook/rule books are full of rules and regulations that play to the lowest common denominator of behavior and in doing so disrespect big majority of solid citizens in the business.
Deal with bad actors. Swiftly and completely. The impact of their behavior lives beyond when it should if it is immortalized in a policy that demeans the good people in the business. I’m the Outsider and that’s what I think.
